Between Clouds and the Sea (2019–2020), ca. 12'

The work Between Clouds and the Sea highlights two starkly contrasting musical states, which eventually converge at a common point of ‘reconciliation’. Initially, the dark, dissonant and static atmosphere introduced at the beginning of the piece is disrupted by four rapid outbursts, which occur at increasingly shorter intervals.

Following the conclusion of this fourth outburst, a section full of energy and rapid movements ensues, highlighting the incompatibility of these contrasts. The melancholic violin solo in the final section marks the end of these tensions and the beginning of calm.

Instrumentation: Flute, Clarinet, Horn, Percussion (Suspended Cymbal, Glockenspiel, Snare Drum), Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double bass
